EMDR
Jan 8th, 2010 by Melinda Halpern, MS, LPC

All of our experiences create patterns with our emotions, beliefs, and our bodies. These ingrained learning patterns can cause us to become more anxious, depressed, reactive or feel ‘stuck’ in our lives. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an adaptive information processing treatment that is effective for a broad range of psychological and physiological issues. Through exploration of past events and their beliefs, emotions and body feelings, EMDR therapists are able to create new neurological inroads to perpetuate healthier responses and resolution of past traumas.

Child and Adolescent Therapist

Children and adolescents are exposed to stress these days that many adults did not face as children. Anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol use, and overwhelmed parents are just some of the issues our children face. I believe that as we are all individuals, there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. The techniques I employ range from EMDR, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, art and Narrative Therapy. What works best with one child does not always fit for another.

Autism Spectrum Disorders

With the diagnosis rate of Asperger’s Syndrome on the rise, serving this population of child has become incredibly important in our society. One of my specialties is working with Asperger’s children and educating their parents and their teachers. Children with Asperger’s Syndrome often need additional advocates to support them as they navigate through life with a compass that works differently than the rest of us. I take great pleasure in providing that help to children and their families.
